This site is part of the B-ASS site about Asperger's Syndrome, but is not exclusively about Asperger's Syndrome itself. The term Neurodiversity is an inclusive concept... everybody is part of diversity, whether they are in the majority or the minority, the 'normal' or the 'special'.

What does neurodiversity mean?

Neurodiversity is a fairly new term and people still use it in a variety of different ways. I use it in very much the same way as you might say ethnic diversity, I mean people with different types of neurology within society. Some people use it to describe the neurology within an individual, such as saying 'I am neurodiverse', but I do not do that because I don't think the term used that way says anything that existing labels don't already achieve.

Why is neurodiversity important?

It is my belief that neurological diversity should be celebrated and appreciated, and there is no one type of neurology which is the best and the only way. There are no accidents in nature... only possibilities. I think humanity could benefit from embracing neurological diversity and adapting to accommodate it instead of trying to wipe it out.
